The club is run by local brothers Luke and Clayton Chamberlain. Both lifelong martial artists and students of world champion and head of the Roger Gracie organisation Professor Roger Gracie. Training since 2009 and has competed on the international stage, the brothers have developed a strong reputation in the Jiu-Jitsu community. This has led to them receiving the honour of being promoted to their current ranks of black belt by their renowned Professor. After opening in May 2017 starting in David Lloyd Westbury on Trym, the club fast outgrew its training space and relocated until finding a home in its current venue, The Youth Centre on Greystoke Avenue. A fully renovated space large enough to sustain the club’s ever-expanding member base and timetable. Then, we moved to Badocks Wood primary school. A stone’s throw from our original location. Here the schedule became a 7-day schedule whilst operating out of a dining hall! This is where our club quickly grew and we won our first Best Academy in Bristol award in 2020. After being forced to close due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were, unfortunately, unable to return once restrictions were eased. We found our next venue, which was Bristol Music Plays, again just around the corner from our previous location, staying within the Southmead community. Fortunately, the music school had a large hall in which we could run Jiu-Jitsu-based fitness classes as that was the only option we had available. Our time here came to an end as the member base grew, and we were in search of a new venue yet again! Here we are in the present day, operating out of Southmead Youth Centre. Having re-decorated the whole first floor and turned it from an old youth centre to a modern full-time Jiu-Jitsu academy. With 40+ classes a week, a seating area with a TV and sofas, showers and changing rooms for men and women! We look to continue to provide the best possible service for its members and further serve the community by offering sessions to more local groups that could improve their quality of life and enjoy the many benefits of training Jiu Jitsu and learning self-defence. |
